Which battery is better for electric vehicles (EVs)?

As Demand for EVs grows day by day. for fulfilling this demand EV manufacturers need the Battery which is act as one of the most important organs for an EV vehicle. so important that without it an EV is nothing but a piece of the box on wheels.

The EV industry requires stable, cost-effective, Heat, water, and weather resistance, and a compatible battery for the EV so to get that there are various kinds of batteries available for EV

Lead Acid Battery

One of the most commonly used batteries since 1959 is the low-density battery used in vehicles and many low to mid-high-range power required machines or motors. Its low density hasn’t stopped this battery performance as it still has a high surge current which leads to a large power-to-weight ratio.

Gel cells and absorbed glass mats are the commonly used lead acid battery from cell towers to high-power storage. when they had electricity in them then the chemical energy in them divide by pure lead (Pb) on the negative side and lead oxide (PbO2).

This battery is very much reliable due to its development for so long which makes it more cost-effective and has good performance in energy efficiency, but the life span of this kind of battery is not enough max to max three to five years, and it is very much heavy to which increase the weight of the vehicle to.

Ultracapacitors

Also, known as supercapacitors they store the Energy in between the Polarized liquid of an electrode and an electrolyte. so due to this its energy storage capability is not fixed. it changes as the area surface of its change.

Ultracapacitors are generally used in a vehicle used to ride in a high-altitude area, vehicle needed high acceleration to run, stamp, and many more as they generate and stores additional power required which also help them recover the braking force used during brakes convert them into energy and store back.

Due to there this quality generally it is used as a secondary power generation and storing facility as it acts as an electric drive for the vehicle because it will help electrochemical batteries level load the power.

Nickel metal hydride battery

Nickel-metal hydride battery is kind of made of using two materials mainly nickel and some other materials like nickel cadmium cells (NiCd) Nickel oxide hydroxide (NiOOH) this were generally a high-density battery commonly used in computer and medical equipment.

This battery has long life span than a lead acid battery and is very much safer than a lead acid battery but they are not cheap this battery is expensive some times there cost are equal to the cost of the material in which it used

In vehicles, they are generally used in hybrid Electric vehicles most due to their high self-discharge capabilities. they generated a lot of heat which makes its surrounding quite hot and unbearable and during discharge, it loses lots of hydrogen too.

Lithium-ion Batteries

The most commonly used battery in mobile phones and much rechargeable electronic equipment even in high-quality laptops too. due to their high energy storage, long run, mass relatives per unit of electricity consumes.

This battery also has a very high power-to-weight ratio which makes it very energy efficient with low electricity it can generate high power to make the device run more than other batteries.

It is a highly recyclable battery more than 90% of which makes it quite eco-friendly but its cost recovery from recycling is not much. so to make recycling more cost-effective research was going on by various scientists in America and Asia.

To make its recycling effective USA funded a program of lithium-ion battery recycling prize where they develop and present reliable solutions for collecting, analyzing, and forwarding the data and material collected during this process to help to make it more profitable and convenient.

Around the globe, most EV makers uses lithium-ion batteries due to their high power generation at low cost, Their recycling capabilities, and though the chemical composition is different for all the Lithium battery manufacturer they all working on their batteries to make them more efficient and compatible for EVs

So far we have discussed four kinds of batteries which generally used around the globe for EVs in which we found that lithium-ion battery is used most as their generation of high power with less electricity and due to its high recycling rate it is selected by most of the user but still it high cost make it 2nd choice of those who are concerned about cost so they choose Lead Acid over it.

As we can say that all kinds of EV batteries are useful from their own perspective and it’s the manufacturer or the buyers’ choice which battery they find comfortable and reliable for their needs also as per us every EV should have the option to use any kind of battery it wants.
